An introduction to women's studies that delineates some of the parameters and interdisciplinary connections in feminist scholarship. The evlution of power structures and associated representations of women are explored and the ways in which femininity and masculinity are constructed by culture are analyzed. in considering the impact of cultures, we explore how the realities of women are influenced by race, class, and sexuality. Factors associated with change are considered including women's emplowerment in the face of asymmetrical gender arrangements.

Dr. Janet Hyde, Professor of Psychology & Evjue-Bascom Professor of Women’s Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
"Men are from Earth, Women are from Earth: The Media Versus Science on Gender Differences"

The media claims women and men are so different that they even come from different planets. Dr. Hyde challenges this representation in the popular media by presenting results from psychological research.
