The End of the World |
The time seems always to be right for the idea that the world is coming to an end, but the advent of the year 2000 is raising millennial expectations to a fever pitch. This class will study the Judeo-Christian tradition of apocalypse in the Book of Revelation and the prophecies of Antichrist as well as more modern variations on the theme under threats of nuclear and environmental desctruction. Our examination will focus on creative handling of the idea of the end of the world in topics like apocalypse illustration, medieval drama, science- fiction, film, and contemporary music.
Be prepared to respond to current events. |
